Maine's Midcoast Region offers breathtaking vistas and amazing adventures for the vacation traveler. The long, sandy (crowded) beaches of the Southern Maine Coast give way in the Midcoast Region to a diverse, rocky coastline with tidal inlets such as the Damariscotta & Sheepscot Rivers creating wonderful peninsulas to explore. Discover the rich shipbuilding and fishing heritage of Maine's coastal villages. Enjoy a lobster dinner on an outdoor restaurant deck while you watch the lobster fisherman unload today's catch. Go kayaking along the inlets or out to sea on a sailing ship or whale watch adventure. The rugged coastline attracts an array of artists and their galleries are fun to find and explore. For the antique lover, the village of Wiscasset offers nearly two dozen antique stores. The Pemaquid peninsula is crowned by the Pemaquid Lighthouse, one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the coast. Climb to the top of the tower and learn about maritime history from one of the friendly volunteers. Explore the remains of Fort William Henry and soak in the spectacular scenery. Don't miss a chance to hear the story of the Puffin restoration project as you visit the nesting island aboard one of the Puffin watch boat tours. The innkeeper's favorite village of Damariscotta offers unique shops and restaurants. Be sure to visit the Maine Coast Bookshop which has a great selection of books about the area. October brings the ever-popular Pumpkin Fest where you can see giant pumpkins turned into boats for the Pumpkin Regatta. The Boothbay peninsula offers world-class gardens at the innkeeper's favorite, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The village of Boothbay Harbor is a popular destination for shopping, restaurants, boat tours and much more. Be sure to take your camera and drive along Ocean Point for quintessential Maine coast scenery. Create your own adventure as you work your way through the galleries and studios of the many craftspeople and artists. The Cod Cove Inn is centrally located between the two peninsulas, so you will have more time to explore them both. In addition, Freeport, Bath and Brunswick are just a few minutes to the South. Camden, Rockland and Rockport are an easy drive to the North. Our staff will be happy to help you with suggestions to make the most of your visit to Maine's spectacular Mid-Coast Region. |
